The AI landscape is evolving at breakneck speed: new breakthroughs, regulations, and tools emerge daily. For NGOs and nonprofits, staying across these changes is nearly impossible while focusing on mission-driven work. So, how can we keep up without drowning in information?
Cutting Through the Noise
There is simply too much AI news, and it changes constantly. It’s easy to fall into the trap of information overload. Instead of trying to keep up with everything, I focus on a few key sources that provide relevant, high-quality insights:
- News Aggregators: I use Matt from Future Tools, which curates major AI developments in an easy-to-digest format.
- Reddit Communities: Subreddits like r/ArtificialIntelligence and r/Ai_agents offer diverse perspectives and discussions on real-world applications of AI.
- Micro-Credentials: Free online courses, such as those from the University of Helsinki, offer structured learning to deepen AI knowledge.
Why This Matters for NGOs
AI has the potential to revolutionise how NGOs operate—whether through automating routine tasks, improving donor engagement, or streamlining grant applications. But without someone filtering the flood of information, it’s hard to know what’s truly relevant.
This is where I see my role. I help NGOs cut through the noise, translating AI developments into practical insights that align with their needs. Having recently completed the Ethics of AI course from the University of Helsinki, I focus not just on what’s possible with AI, but also on what’s responsible.
